Track Trivia:
This is a restrictor plate track, meaning that cars are only putting out about 350 to 400 horsepower instead of the normal 800 horsepower. Because of this and the fact the track is so big drivers need to rely on the draft. Several cars nose to tail will go faster than just one. Teams often work together here and have had success. DEI, Hendrick and Roush teams are safe bets.
The Daytona 500 is early enough in the year where the track temp isn't a big factor. The July race, although held at night, is different because the track has done nothing but bake all day and it starts is cool down when the cars come out on the track. Hard to set up a good car here in July.
Where is the trouble? Take it from me and my personal experience, Turn 4. Drivers come through the middle of the corner 3 or 4 wide and it gets narrow and someone has to give, usually they give in the infield. Also, watch for cars slamming on the brakes in Turn 4 in order to come down to pit road speed, this can cause others to check up if they aren't paying attention.
